Default 686-3 and "US Navy" Victory model

Hello everyone. This is my first post so have some patience. So I went to our local pawn shop and put a model 686-3 and a "US NAVY" victory model on layaway. $352.00 for the 686-3 and $349.00 for the victory model they are both 90-95%. Just wondering if i got a semi good deal or if i got ripped off a bit. I am starting to collect these fine guns with my first one being a model 65-3 and I love i1t

Sounds like a good deal on both. FYI the victory should be a 4" 38 spl
not 38 S&W and be marked U S Navy on the left side of the top of the receiver.

$350 for a Navy marked Victory? In 90% condition easy worth $450 or more on the collectors market.

You got a great deal on both. I would buy any 686 all day long for $350. Would like to see pictures of the Victory model when you get it. I also have a 65-3 3" barrel, easy to carry and fun to shoot. Welcome to the forum, some good people here with lots of good advice.

It is a .38 spl with 4" and US NAVY is marked on the left side.

Only thing I noticed was the grip # does not match the rest of the serial numbers but they were still original grips. Will this hurt the value down the road?

Welcome to the forum, Mr. C!! No the grip serial not matching will not hurt the value (wow! three negatives...does that make a nega+?). You STOLE those guns...enjoy.

The better deal is the 686, but both are solid deals

If you mean on the Vic, yes it detracts somewhat.

On the inside of the wood grips. All other ones match.

If the serial number on the back side of the right grip panel does not match the serial number of the gun, then the grips are not original to the gun, they have been switched or replaced. As Lee said, it does affect the value, but not drastically, probably by a minus 10%, or so. You still got a good deal on the Victory, if it letters to the U. S. Navy. There are fakes around that are stamped US Navy on the side of the frame, so a factory letter is needed to be sure what you have. Ed.
