Longest barrel length for an M&P?
I've been reading this months American Rifleman and the last page is a review called " I Have This Old Gun ".
This review is on the Mod 10/M&P. In the text it states, ..." barrel lengths ranging from 4" to 8" ...".
A six inch is the longest barrel I've ever seen on a Mod 10, did they mfg. any with an 8 & 3/8ths inch barrel ?

There were some early M&Ps made with a 6 1/2" barrel. I've never seen anything over that.

There were two 8" 1899's made , one in blue and the other in nickel. The blue one
was for Dr Sayre, a physician who was the captain of the 1908 US Olympic shooting
team, and used the gun in the Olympics. I own this gun. The nickel was for Charlies
Call, of the S&W factory, and inventor of the Call bead front sight blade. He worked
for the factory from 1882 to 1946, a total of 64 years.

That same article as states, "...a version with a 2" barrel was introduced in 1905...."
I was surprised that Jim Supica didn't author the article.

I found one with a 11 1/2 in. barrel at an AZ gun show several year ago and sold it to one of our members. It was made by welding two 6 in bbls. together to stretch the barrel. Beautiful job with the lands & grooves lined up perfectly, but I don't know who did it, however I assumed it was not factory. Ed.

8" 1899 Revolver
This first picture is of the 5 blue 1899 .38 targets that I own. There is the 4", the
5", the 6", the 6 1/2", and the 8" - at the top of the picture.
This next picture is from a local gun show in Vancouver, WA, about 5 years ago. The
8" is in its Marvin Huey case; all the rest of the 1899 target collection is around the
case.

SP, and others
I know where the nickel 8" 1899 is, but it has not been offered to me !
I do, however, have the engraved M&P target that was presented to Charlie Call
in 1907, on his 25 anniversary with the factory. Its a 6 1/2" gun. A few years back,
I loaned it to the factory for the Collectors display that ran in the gallery, for about
a year.
Regards, Mike
