I was at a pawn shop last week and a very elderly man came in carrying a crown royal bag with a small revolver. He asked the shop owner about selling it. He wanted $300 and she wasn't going above $125. I left quickly and waited for him outside. Here is what he had.

I added the period correct Diamond stocks and the box. It came with nice J frame magnas but not diamond. He was quite happy to let it go at $200. I knew I would have to dress it up some. I shot it last week and it's a great shooter. Dead on at 15 and 25'
There is a little pitting and a few very small rust spots that I cleaned up with some CLP and brass wool. I took the side plate off and what a mess. I used my ultra sonic bath with CLP and then it came out clean as new. It's not a collector grade gun but at $200 plus the grips and box it will do. I put my used set of CT grips on it and have been ankle carrying it all week. I love J frames!
Oh and it dates to 1960.

Even in this age of electronic access, gizmos, etc, cash remains king.

Way to go. Nice find. Good pictures.

When I wait outside for someone like that, and I have before, the business owner is following the guy out and I have never got to make a deal. I will keep trying.

Congrats. I love the model 36 and for 2 bills it would have been a no-brainer for me. Flat latch to boot. Gotta love that.

I remember in 1979 a friend of mine bought two m-36 smiths. One nickel and one blue, he paid $189.00 ea, retail. I told him he was crazy to pay so much because I could have gotten him them at a pawn shop for $100.00. Boy, times sure have changed.

That's odd. They must think you're waiting to hijack the person coming out.
Maybe you should leave the ski mask at home:-)

Yes, but that 100 in 1979 is probably worth 400 of our worthless papers now..

Very nice find. I also just picked up a Model 36 recently . Where can i get the brass wool ? Mine has a little rust and pitting as well. It's also a square butt. I haven't cleaned it up yet ,after the clean up I'll post some pics .

I looked at several local places.. ended up getting at Midway on line. My biggest beef was paying shipping / handling that was more than the $3.00 piece of brass wool. So I ordered other stuff I don't need to balance out the shipping..so my $3 purchase cost me $65.
