what is the earliest known serial number on a registered magnum.

Per the SCSW, it is 45768. There are several threads here about REG 1, given to J. Edgar Hoover but whereabouts now unknown, but the book doesn't state this is 45768.

Serial number 45756 belongs to RM #2 shipped to Phil Sharpe.

it has a serial number well below the low range, if my lgs shot me straight.

If you mean the gun you won, the serial is 616xx, according to the seller.

After doing a little research, the gun you won is probably from 1940 and more than likely a Non-Registered Magnum of which there is actually fewer of.

Sorry I have been busy and away from my computer. As you know the serial is 616xx, there are no other marks on it to indicate a RM. So I assume it to be a non-registered or a transitional model.
