Alvin White Engraved 44 Magnum (pic added)
...shipped in February 1957. Now with service style style stocks by Keith Brown with gold S&W monograms set in an ivory disk. The revolver has seven animals in gold (including a rattle snake on the bottom of the trigger guard) and a lot of gold wire. The red ramp is now a gold ramp and the white outline rear sight is now a gold outline rear sight.

Thank you for sharing this with us; it is a pleasure!
Would you be aware if the factory or another collector had cataloged the factory engravers' work? This is really quite exemplary.

TheHobbyist....I am not sure what you are asking. I have been interested in engraved 44 Magnums from the 50s and 60s and know something about them. Harry Jarvis, Alvin White (on a contract basis), Russ Smith, Virginia LeBlanc, Bob Burt, and Sigfried Rentzschke engraved during this period.

Bill, Great .44! I like the gold inlaid moon that is partially blocked by a cloud. My apreciation for Alvin White's work grows more and more with each example I see.

That is one of the most spectacular guns I've ever seen, and Keith's stocks are amazing as well.

Engraved guns usually do absolutely nothing for me - but man this one is real nice. I'd certainly break into the piggy bank for a gun like that!

Question for Bill
Bill,
Did you have the portion below the gold line where the target grips would have been on the gun engraved afterwards to allow for the use of the non-magna grips to fill in the smooth space, or did Mr. White engrave the gun like that? I have never seen that done before on any of the engraved guns I have seen.
The gun looks fantastic, and Keith's grips really make everything just jump out at you.

I am not a big fan of engraved guns. I understand why others like them - it just isn't my thing.
That said, this is a beautiful work of art. Thanks for sharing it!

Model39...Four of the five guns I have that are engraved by AAW are done like this one. He always seemed to engrave the portion of the frame that would normally be covered by the stocks.

What a fantastic gun. It's just beautiful! I really like the idea of the service grips and didn't know that Alvin White typically engraved that part of the frame.

I think some new words have to be conjured up for a masterpiece like that. I used " Magnumificent" a while back , but I'm coming up with blanks on this one.

I have a feeling your freezer will be stocked with venison this year as long as the glare from the gold doesn't startle the deer!!
Just kidding, its a stunning piece

Thankful for the pics. My curiosity is bothering me about the rest of the engraving, darn it. Guess that is to be expected.

I do like engraved guns, and that is way out front for an engraved handgun. I own quite a few engraved rifles and shotguns, but I never have acquired an engraved handgun. You may have persuaded me!
It would be interesting to know the history. For whom it was engraved, and when, etc.
Does it reside in a presentation case? It should.
Keith Brown did a masterful job also.
Thank you for sharing.

Mule88....If I was going to have a gun engraved today, I would have John Pease do the work. He is a great engraver and does wonderful inlay work.

Bill, the gun is even more beautiful than I had imagined, the grips have just the amount of contrast I was after and I think it worked out well. As always it is a pleasure to see your special guns, quite a fine resting place for my grips. Thanks to all for the kind comments also.
