Hello Smith and Wesson forum,
i recently had a 38 special ctg handed down to me from the family and id like help identifying it and knowing more about its origins. Here is the info i can give:
the patent date on the top of the barrel goes up to oct. 4, 98
the serial number is: 11316
the wood stock says GR on the right side and A on the left
any info you guys have would be great
thank you
Hello
This sounds very much like a .38 Military & Police First Model revolver, also known as a Model of 1899.
If this is the correct identification, there will be no locking lug under the barrel in front of the ejector rod. There will also be no screw in the front of the trigger guard.
As for the markings on the stocks, I'm not sure I follow what you are telling us. Do these letters appear on the outside of the stock panels? Is there no checkering on them?
Photos would be very helpful.
Regards,
JP
