Default Early Target Hand Ejector

I picked this up at an auction here in Canada. Finish is mostly gone and it has some pitting. It function well and the grips are in great shape. Serial number is 1940. Any information would be great.

Thanks

.38 Hand Ejector First Model, likely first year, 1899.

Really prominent add on after market adjustable sights, not a factory target model.

Pre-war S&W adjustable sights were very small in physical size. Easy to spot a modified "target model." See how small and compact the sight is on the pre-war gun pictured below?
