Default Need information

I bought a Smith that is the size of a K frame. It's a 22lr with a six inch barrel and the serial number is 651067. It appears to be an outdoorsman k22, but the sights are non-adjustable. They are no visible screws located anywhere on the sight. Can anyone tell me any information on the model, year, or the sight? Also can you tell me if the sight is factory or an aftermarket replacement?

The gun is a K-22 Outdoorsman from the mid-1930s. These guns originally came with adjustable rear sights, but you had to have good eyes to use them effectively.

Somebody took the original sight off your gun and replaced it with a larger non-adjustable rear sight. Maybe it is wedge-fit or welded, but if it is a drop-in sight and there are no screws I don't know what holds it in place.

It looks like the top of the frame has been modified to accommodate a rear sight with a larger foot. If that is the case, I doubt you would be able to restore it to original condition.

On the other hand, that is a serious sight and may let you do accurate shooting just the way it is. Take it to the range and wring it out.

The prewar K-22s are amazing revolvers. Even with a replacement sight that one is a beauty. Shoot it and enjoy it.

AFTERTHOUGHT: Welcome to the forum. I should have said that first.

+1 to all that David said... spot on, as usual! Somebody went to no little expense and effort to put a non-adjustable target sight on that fine 22 revolver, probably when it was fairly new as the finish seems to match. I'm going to guess that with the proper ammo (probably standard velocity target stuff) it will shoot very well. At $250 you got a very nice deal, IMHO. And as David said, welcome to the Forum!
