Please help. Stumped
This will probably be an easy answer to someone but this has me stumped.
I recently acquired a S&W 38 special CTG and I'm wanting to know exactly what I have and what it's worth. Help me if you can. Serial C308113 located under barrel and butt. 4" pinned barrel. Case colored hammer and trigger, rest of the steel is blued. 5 screw gun. Has the diamond emblem around the wooden grip screw. Fixed sights. Not sure exactly of the frame, it's a smaller one tho... And it has another set of numbers inside the cylinder crane: J 2524 5??
This is what I know, any info you can give would be great?!?

Hello and welcome to the Forum.
What you bought is a postwar .38 Military & Police revolver. This is the model that became the Model 10 in late 1957.
With the serial number you reported, your revolver would have left the factory in 1954, or perhaps 1955 (S&W did not ship in serial order).
Everything you reported sounds original on this gun.
You now have a very serviceable revolver for shooting and/or home defense. These are very common but very reliable handguns.
Enjoy it, take care of it and be safe.
Jack

This revolver is built on the K (medium) frame.
Also, the serial number you found on the butt and on the barrel flat should also appear on the rear face of the cylinder.

Welcome to the forum.
Your only question that wasn’t answered was its value. To answer that requires an objective description of its condition, or preferably pictures. Depending on condition, its value will fall in the $300 to $450 range.

Yes! I guess I should read the questions more carefully!

Your SN is mid-1950's, probably 1955-56, but precise dating of shipment would require a factory letter. It's probably not worth the cost of doing that.
There are a lot of condition and originality factors that relate to market value. One showing considerable use and abuse would probably be less than $250. In high condition and original, maybe $350-450, but with the original box and paperwork, likely more.
