Default Model 18 wandering the isles of the gun show

Could not believe this Model 18, no dash, 4 screw, (K433xxx) Grips numbered to the gun, (1957 vintage?) was still walking the isles when I saw it. Said he had been walking the show for two hours. Not mint but a very clean old shooter @ 90% or better. Less than 1/2 the cost of a new one.

Looks nice. You don't find too many of these so when you do you snatch them up. Good catch. Folks were too busy looking at the tables for ammo and AR's to see an old revolver walking around. That serial puts it around 1961.

I think you did very well. I would have bought it for sure.

I've seen a few nice buys on vintage S&Ws and other desirable old guns of shooter quality at shows lately. That's pretty unusual around here. I've had some dealers tell me that they're getting them in trades for black guns. I have very mixed feelings on that.

Unfortunately, because of MD's one-gun-a-month law and the State Police's processing time on background checks having gone from a week to a month+ (they say they can't deal with the volume since 12/12), I haven't been able to jump on some of the deals I've seen. I envy those in other states who have.

If it would have had a flash supressor and shot .223 he would not have made it in the door. Great find on a great gun

Just proves, again, that the needle in the hay stack can be found if you just keep looking. The recent urge to buy has focused on ARs and auto pistols but in my circles most everything else of interest has dried up too or gotten unreasonably expensive. You did well with the Model 18.

Nice grab! Was the guy just walking around with it in his hand or did he have it in a rug or something?

He was walking around with it in a belt holster (yes it was a like new S&W 19 34 leather holster) and it came along with the gun. As other posters have said most of the attention at the show was on 9mm ammo and black guns.

I've seen the same thing, one of the only nice thing to happen for us revolver guy's, although the ammo is scarce for that Mod 18 right now. Glad I keep a couple cases on hand most of the time.

Nice OldK22, I also have a 4 screw no dash K434xxx that I traded for a couple of years ago. It did have some condition issues that I could fix. A nice shooter and 4 screws are sort of limited in production - I think. You don't hear much about them, unlike the 5 screw and 3 screw.

Nice find.
Pretty lucky to find it, and at a good price.
Well done.
