Pretty pretty pretty 1905 M&P new to me
Hi folks. I just wanted to share this pretty revolver I just acquired. Hard to say when it was made but before 1942. I sorta got sucked in by the nickle finish and stag grips. So here you all go. Enjoy.

Try the mid-1920s. Any indication that the plating may not be original? Grips look like Franzite plastic, not original.

Well, the MADE IN USA marking says no older than 1924, and the ejector rod knob says no newer than about 1927-'28.
I don't see anything that makes me suspect a refinish. All the pin heads look round - as they should. I'm bettin' the grips are real genuine stag as I'm pretty sure I'm seein' pores in the bottoms of 'em....
Nice find.
Mark

Remove the grips and take/post some pictures of the back sides. That would help determine what they are. Good stag grips would be worth something. Plastic grips would not.

544932 shipped in December 1927. Yours is probably in the same general time frame, give or take a few months.
Nice looking gun!

One good thing regarding the nickel plating is that the hammer and trigger are not plated. Often, post-plated S&Ws have plated hammers and triggers. And they never left the factory that way.

I have one in about the same condition as the above pictures, except mine is from 1922. My favorite S&W M&Ps are those made during the 20s and 30s. I think they are the best ever.

The grips are real stag. Photobucket is so slow to upload I didn't try to post them.
Thanks so much for the dating help guys! I really appreciate the site. You ask a question and people actually answer it.

Uploading speed is greatly enhanced if you minimize the size (pixel count) of the image. I always resize the image so that the largest dimension is 5" or less before uploading.

Number 5315xx shipped in February, 1926, according to its letter. So yours, at 533687, was probably shipped soon after that. But since S&W did not ship in serial order, that is only an educated guess.

That number's within about 300 of my first duty gun, which was the same configuration. It didn't look that good 35 years ago.

Thanks Jack. I may want to get a letter myself.
