Default S&W 32 long pistol mfg date?

I just inherited a mint condition 32 long pistol. Serial #772564. Can anyone tell the mfg date of the pistol....also can i used 32 short ammo or would 32 long ammo be better?

Welcome to the forum.
That's a late 1960s Model 30-1 (if round butt) oror 31-1 if sq butt. The model # is stamped on the frame visible when you open the cylinder.
32 short or log and even 32 ACP can be fired safely in it. Best accuracy would be with the 32 long. A posted photo would help pin down the date.

Either can be used, but obviously the long version is a bit more powerful. Regarding which will shoot a tighter group in your revolver, that's something you must determine.
