Default what was the "Gold seal" smith & wesson?

Yesterday for the secound time I heard of a referance to a "Gold seal" model smith and wesson. One other time 40 years ago I had a collector friend that said he owned one. At the time I didnt get to the bottom of what model that was. I have wondered about it ever since and almost wonder had I heard it right. It seems to me that it was a target refined model of some sort in .38 special maybe from the 1920s? I have searched here before and also googled it with no results. Anybody know anything about this?

I think it is just another name for the Triple Lock. What it refers to, I do not know. Maybe something used in advertising?

I had never heard of a "Gold Seal" S&W until this post, but the question sent me scurrying in search of an answer. DWalt appears to be correct. In Dean K. Boorman's The History of Smith and Wesson Firearms, you can find a picture of a New Century on page 50 along with the note that it was also called the Gold Seal and Triple Lock.

I find myself wondering if the Gold Seal designation was for target models as opposed to the "military" models with fixed sights.

I was on a quad ride with a guy two days ago who said he had a old "gold seal" smith & wesson. This was after a dangerous long ride, everyone was loaded up to go home, and wives were hollering "lets go" etc. I will see him again and get at the bottom of it but the other time was about 40 years ago a old collector friend of mine was bragging up on one he had and I very vaguely think it was a old target model of some type supposedly blessed with extra factory craftmenship pains. The guy I was talking to is retired but used to have a gunsmithing business in california. Now he does this internet selling.

About two years ago I came across this print for sale, reportedly dating from 1948. I don't know anything else about it, but it does state that the Triple Lock was also known as the "Gold Seal Model". I assume that is in reference to the gold S&W-monogram medallions set into the stocks.

Supica mentions gold seal model 29 (page 201) placed on the sideplate of commerative models and found a reference to Gold Seal Triplelocks. I have seen a few S&Ws with gold washed logos and always assumed they were done outside of the factory. So I assume the seal is the S&W logo and is gold washed, but have no idea how many the factory did over the years.
