38 S&W Special CTG
Hello, I would like to know the age and, if possible, the price of my 38 S&W Special CTG. The serial number is 563203, it has the S&W trade mark logo on the right side, and above the barrel are the patents dates (FEB.6.06.SEPT.14.09.DEC.29.14). Any information will help, thank you.

CTG stands for cartrage. You can shoot .38 smith&wesson special cartrages in your gun.

Welcome! With a six-digit serial number and the barrel stampings you describe, you most likely have a .38 Military & Police from the late 1920s. Photos or a very detailed description of the finish and mechanical condition are needed for a value estimate. Hope this is helpful.

Dating is correct, from the late 1920s. Yours is called the Hand Ejector, Model of 1905, 4th Change, Military and Police. Value depends almost entirely upon condition and originality. Run of the mill M&Ps in average condition will be in the $250-$400 range, but it is not possible to give even an approximate value of yours without some good detailed pictures. It could be worth much less, or a little more.

I have the same gun, 6 in. barrel, from Grandfather, Security Guard (also deputy sheriff) at Clark Equipment Co., Buchanan, MI, through father, now me. Serial number 617531. Have accompanying Sam Brown Belt. Has adjustable sights, sight blade has rounded corner where someone whacked it. Would like to get a replacement blade. It seems a little small.
