Default S&W Box Restoration?

Hello all,

Does anyone know of someone who does top quality S&W box restorations? I have an old hand ejector box that is in pretty rough shape, but I'd like to see what can be done with it.

Any and all leads would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

David

Hello
I posted a similar question with photos last night. You can see it here, with David's reply.

http://smith-wessonforum.com/s-w-han...th-change.html

I'll monitor your thread to see what responses you get and you can do the same with mine.

I'd be curious on the replies. I have a 25-2 with original wood box which the outside is great. However the inside (felt) looks horrible with rips/holes. Anyone reading your I hope can assist in this fix as well. Don't mean to steal your post.

I wish my box problem was as easy to solve as yours! There are several guys who specialize in restoring the presentation cases and it isn't a huge challenge for them. If you look at my photos in the Model of 1903 thread, you'll see my problem runs much deeper!

I expect you will get some replies that will point you to the experts who fix the interior of the wood presentation cases.

Good luck!

Jack

Contact forum member jcelect (Joe Cebull). Most of us have had him do at least one presentation case for us. He does oustanding work at great prices.

Jack - that is a nice looking .32 HE you have there! My HE box is in similar shape and is missing some of the internal cardboard. It's beyond my abilities to fix it - and I want this done right.

I'll let you know if I find someone who does restorations. Thank you for doing the same.

Well if Joe Cebull can't fix it then I doubt that there is anyone else up here because he's an expert.

Here's a 4 inch N frame presentation case he redid for me.

If you google toy box repair/restorations two places come up,Randys toy shop and Anthonys restorations.I think prices are quoted after they examine the box.I would imagine it would be pretty pricy. If you pursue it let us know.

I know that, but Murphy's Law asked about a presentation case, thus my reason for quoting him when mentioning Joe Cebull.

Dave & Dick,

Thank you for the tip on Randy's Toy shop. I found their site and will send them some photos of the box. If I go with them, I'll post before and after photos.

I was hoping for someone who knows S&Ws, as the box in question is an old 22/32 red box with the hinged lid. Hopefully they've had some experience with firearm boxes.

Thanks again for your help!

David

Might be cheaper to buy another box if you can find one . Randy's quoted me $ 700 to restore a K22 Outdoorsman Red Picture box .

Holy smokes! I was afraid of that. If his quote is high, I'll be searching for ways to do this myself.

Go back to the thread on my .32 (link is in my earlier post) and read what David wrote about DIY restorations. He gave good advice. This will be a delicate process, but what do you have to lose except some time and effort?

David is a very knowledgeable and helpful fellow. If they ever create an award for the SWCA member most willing to help others, David gets my vote.

I'll have to see what the local craft store has to offer. There may also be some online resources for how to do this.

It would sure make for a nice sticky, as there will be others wishing to tread this path.

If you do not know what you are doing it can turn out like a 3rd grader's craft project and be worth even less than before you started.

You may be right, 05CarbonDRZ, but it is hard to imagine it being worse than it is now. It's pretty shabby!

I saw a book at one time (this has been 4 or 5 years ago) on the subject of paper restoration, so there have been some works on it. You may want to go to Abe Books and see what they may have available - Abe has books on about everything you can imagine from all over the world.

I am aware that there are some paper ammunition box restoration experts. Not quite the same but close. You might want to go to the International Ammunition Association website and post a question there. That's where the hardcore ammo collectors hang out.
