A.f. Stoeger Registered Magnum Pocket Holster
You read correctly, here is a pocket holster made for a 5" Registered Magnum. Stamped with the round A.F. Stoeger, Inc. logo and also stamped 357 M 5 with the holster model number 18. This holster was made by the George Lawrence Co. The 1938 Lawrence catalog lists the model 18 pocket holster as being made for autos or revolvers. The holster has a belt loop and one method of wearing them was to anchor the holster in the rear pocket while wearing it on your belt. The top front of the holster is flared and blocked to accept the rear sight.
This fine example was brought to me by my esteemed friend Charlie aka Ordnanceguy who found it on David Carroll's table in Tulsa. Enjoy the photos of an unusual holster.
Regards,
turnerriver

That's terrific, John.
Thanks for posting it.
Ordnance guy gave me some great information about issue holsters for WWII Intelligence Detective Specials. He's a good man.

Any 5" dedicated holster is hard to find, this one is special!
I often wear a holster anchored in my back pocket, if the barrel length works.
Difficult to imagine Stoeger making a killing on sales volume??

John:
Do you have any period baggy pants or overcoat that can accomodate a 5 inch ".357" Magnum? LOL
I would be willing to bet the only way to do it is to have two, one carried on each side, so your body does not "list" to the side like a sinking ocean liner.
Great find!
Best regards,
Shawn

My pre-27 with the Lawrence 5" basket weave holster and Tyler adapter that came with gun and the box. When I wear it (rarely) it is on a 2 1/2" gun belt. A 5" RM in the back pocket would definately cause a 'list'.
I'll be wearing this pre-35 tucked in my back pocket next week deer hunting on the Musselshell River. BTW: the scarce holster also came with the gun!
