Post War Transitional Terrier Find, question.
I recently purchased this online. After much research, I realize the grips can't be original. Can anyone tell me what they (the grips) may have belonged on at one time? The serial number is 562XX. Any input as to approximately what year it was shipped?
Thanks in advance for any input.

The two in the pic are Improved I frames. The one
with the ramp front sight is the Terrier. I'm not
so good with grip descriptions, magna's?. The
grips you have look like they came from a Hand Ejector
from the pre-war era.
Remember, I'm no smarter than I look.

Like these: postwar medallion service grips with rounded corners to the checking field.
This is one of those uncommon round-butt .38 Regulation Police revolvers that were produced in limited numbers around 1950-51. Think of it as a Terrier with a longer barrel. It is numbered about 2000 higher than the one in the original post.

I have a note that SN 58087 shipped in Dec 1950 (not mine), so yours would likely be earlier than that if they actually shipped in anywhere near SN order.
My post-war transitional is SN 58260 and has the gold medallion service stocks.

Sorry, I ignored one of your questions. I suspect your gun was shipped in 1951, possibly late 1950.
The grips on it now reflect the 1920s design -- no medallions. They are early I-frame grips from about 20-30 years before your revolver was shipped.

Murphy2000, that's the gun I've been looking for to complete a trifecta. I got the pre-War version, but the post-War has eluded me thus far. There was speculation on a recent thread here about their relative rarity, but it seems none of them is what I would call common. Even with the mismatched (but probably quite salable) grips, you got a nice find there. Congratulations!

Charlie,
I recall our PM's and discussions about this particular Pre-Post War Terrier. I got it at a fair price considering the rarity of them. It was that flat mainspring that had me wanting one. I wish the grips were the originals, but alas. I sold the post war improvied I frame Terrier I had, I've been kicking myself everysince.
One a footnote, should I decide to part with this one you have first dib's.

The sunken gold medallions date your grips to the 1910-1920 era.
