Default .38 Cal. S&W revolver

I inherited a .38 Cal. revolver from my father. It belonged to his father. I would like to know when it was manufactured. It is .38 caliber special, blued with pearl handles, hand ejector, serial number 131566 on the butt, 5" barrel length, fixed sights, it does have a strain screw, no butt swivel, it has 4 screws on the right side, no screw in front of trigger guard, it does have an upper side plate screw, it does have a trigger guard screw. Thanks in advance to anyone who replies with information.

It's a fairly early Model of 1905, Second Change Military revolver, in .38 Special, dating from, probably 1908-09. I doubt the grips are original, and correct original wooden grips from that period are difficult to find. The finish appears to be original. The steel in these revolvers was not heat-treated until after WWI, so stick to standard velocity lead bullet .38 Special loads for maximum safety. But it is otherwise suitable for use.

Nice that you have it handed down though the family that's awesome. That's a neat looking older s&w too. Bill
