Default ?s about Victory model

I've seen several of the British Contract .38 S&W K frames for sale.
So far, they have all been rechambered for .38 Special and have also have the front sight replaced and been nickel plated.
None I've found have had the correct stocks.

I'm assuming this was done to make them easier to sell after the war.
So, was this work mostly done in England before shipping them back to the US, or was it done here in the US?
I've seen some with front sights marked "Parker Hale" and "England".
IIRC, Parker Hale is/was a British gunmaker.
What I'm confused by is if the work was done before or after re-importation.

Thanks in advance.

Both, but probably most were modified on these shores after importation. It was fairly simple work that most any machine shop could easily perform. There's probably no way to know how many were done. I've seen quite a few marked as being done by Cogswell & Harrison, who I assume was some British gunmaker.

Not too long ago there was an interesting posting here from some gunsmith who was involved in doing mass chamber borings for one of the large gun importers.

It would be very interesting to hear from someone who has firsthand knowledge about what happened back then.
