Default Identify my revolver

Need help to identify my Father-in-laws old S&W 38 special CTG revolver. My Wife said he used to be a police officer and it was his duty weapon. Serial number on the bottom of the grip is V161635. Pictures included.

Welcome to the Forum.
You have a Military and Police Victory Model. I was made in the middle of WWII. There is supposed to be a lanyard on the butt, which is what that hole is for.
The M&P was made in the millions since 1899. It was a very popular law enforcement handgun. In 1957 it was re-named the M10, and is still being produced.
That looks like a nice one.

Welcome to the forum. That looks like a WWII era Victory Model which is a wartime production Military & Police revolver. It looks like it's in good shape for its age.

He used it for 22 years on the force. It has holster wear. Looking forward to shooting it after a good inspection and cleaning.
