Per a request, I am posting my other four Alvin White-engraved 44 Magnums. The fist one was done in 1957 and is wearing stocks by KB. The second was done in 1956 for the President of Rex Firearms in NYC. The third one was done for S&W in May 1958, and the last one was done in December 1958 and is one of the first 44 Magnums with an 8 3/8-inch barrel.

For a closer look, double click on each photo (I will save the left side for another post).

Was the 6.5-inch barrelled one with the tiger inlay ever in a display of ornate S&W's at the fairgrounds in Dallas, TX? I think I saw either it or one very similar.

The media gave the display no coverage and very few other people seemed to know about it. Apart from me and my two children, I don't suppose more than 15-20 other people were viewing the exhibit when I was there.

It was in the Hall of State on the fairgrounds. Gosh, that was probably 25 or so years ago. But that gun stood out, if it's the one I have in mind. The tiger was memorable. I've seen photos of the gun several times.

You certainly have some remarkable firearms.

Texas Star....It is possible the gun was in that display. I acquired it about fifteen years ago, but do not know much about its history. I have a couple of handwritten notes from Alvin White who considers the 44 with the tiger on the side plate as one of his best S&Ws.

I have to agree with Alvin White on that one. That gun is about the only engraved gun that has ever made me seriously consider what it would take to try to acquire it. I kind of figure if I am going to have an engraved gun, why not just have the best engraved gun?

Amazing collection there Bill. Something to aspire to.

Bill, the next time you head to the safe to wipe guns down with an oily rag, give me a call and I'll be glad to help you. You have some beautiful guns, thanks for sharing them with us. Larry

Holy smokes, all are beautiful. The first one is my favorite though.

I too would have to agree with Mr. White's assessment - I have always loved the tiger gun.

Thanks for sharing the spectacular set!!!

Beautiful S&Ws

Thanks for sharing with us. I wish I had a way to make pictures of those four Smiths.

You know, the Ed Rogers Videogame Foundation (truly a worth cause I hear) gratefully accepts AWESOME firearms donations too... ;)

I keep telling guys that guns are not art and should be used as intended. But I now realize that some guns are in fact art, and are intended for display purposes only.
