Handejector 2nd model find.
I found this on the trade counter of my local shop. I thought it might be out of my wallet range. Asked how much and was surprised. Some one changed out the front sight, professionally done, but a detraction none the less. They had outdoorsman on the tag, grabbed it quick. Its pretty clean overall. What do you think.

Definitely not a factory front sight. I don't believe I've ever seen one like that. Yours is from sometime between late 1922 and 1928. Providing a SN would nail the date down a little more closely. It is not an Outdoorsman, just a plain M&P model. I hope you didn't pay an Outdoorsman price. The first .38 Outdoorsman came out in 1931, on the heavier N frame. Yours is a K-frame.
Some might call it a Model of 1905, 4th Change, but S&W dropped that terminology before this one was made.

Its 44 special caliber and an "N" frame. The sight is marked Lyman on the side, it has a white bead on it. A dovetail has been cut on the original half moon sight. Otherwise its mechanically nice. Grips are in good shape and I believe original. The serial # is 210XX.

That changes things. You didn't give the caliber, and it looks like a .38. Nonetheless, it's still not an Outdoorsman. It's a .44 HE second model from about 1924.

The front sight like a rifle's front sight.

A skilled restorer may be able to repair the front sight base and replace the blade to original specs. Otherwise it looks nice.

They are great shooters. I have a nickeled one from 1923. That actually looks like a front sight for a rifle, but am sure it works for it's intended purpose well. You can get an adjustable rear sight that is a bolt on for that gun, think it's called a wondersight.
What did you have to pay for it?

Related Question
I'm looking at a 1902 32-20 hand ejector and wondering what the frame designation on it would be. Looks very similar to the K frame in this thread but I confess ignorance on identifying frames. I'm just coming back into revolvers after a diversion into the semi-auto M&P line.
Any help would be appreciated. This will be my first purchase in this category and I'm both excited and hesitant.
Thanks.

Sort of off the topic of this thread, but yes, it would be a K-frame.

Thanks for the response. I needed to get that question settled before I make a couple of decisions.

That's right it slipped thru the cracks. I passed on one last year that was quite a bit rougher. Did you pick up that other gun you were lookin at?

The revolver in this thread is a .44 Special, built on the N frame, which is a bit larger than the .32-20 K frame that you are considering buying.
The round butt .32-20 revolvers are the cat's meow IMHO.

I have an early 38, K frame with No 7157**.It has the original wood grips with silver disks, and a small letter p stamped on the other side of the lanyard ring from the serial number.Any idea of a manufacturing date?

That SN is likely from early 1941 (Jan-Feb). Seems like you have some variety of a pre-Victory model revolver, probably made for the British Commonwealth military. S&W wasn't making much else at that time. Caliber would probably be .38 S&W, not .38 Special.

Hope that works out for you. I sent 3 emails asking for more details and pictures. Never got any response. People that can`t answer questions don`t need my money.
