Ky Highway Patrol w/ Reg. Mag.
In an ongoing search for information on a KHP Patrolman who bought a non-Reg. Mag. I have turned up a couple more images that you might find interesting. Unfortunately, this isn't the man who purchased my non-RM, but it shows an obvious large S&W with ivory grips. Since my gun was shipped to the patrolman in 1939 and these photos are circa 1940-42 I think it would be a safe conclusion that this one is also a Reg. Mag.

I don't want to drift your thread, but I've got a RM that was ordered by a Captain Ed Blue in the KY Highway Patrol to be for training in their Police school.
This was the thread I posted about the gun, along with the documents from the S&WHF
S&W Historical Foundation documents for RM #3270
I tried to find information on Captain Ed Blue, but I came up empty.

I'm thinking the cartridges in the loops above the holster look bigger than 357 Magnum, like maybe 44 Special? Of course I could be wrong.

Bob,
Cool pictures..........
Several years back I was visiting at the KSPPA in Frankfort and there was a 3 1/2 RM on display aliken to yours.
I asked around down in the Hopkinsville area....But, about all the old hands there have purty much faded away.
Su Amigo,
Dave

Thanks Jeff,
The gun that I was searching for has been seen here in the past so I hope the old-timers will forgive the redundancy. It is non-Reg. Mag sn 61270, 3.5" Nickel. It was shipped March 5, 1940 to Gil Salter, Kentucky Highway Patrol, Hopkinsville, KY, delivered to city police station. Gilbert Gray Salter had a brief career with the KHP and then joined the Hopkinsville PD. He is pictured here in this HPD photo as the 3rd from the left. I've found a good bit of info on him but always looking for more. A lot has come from ezecho at his web site http://ezechoweb.com/ksp/khp.html

Franklin,
When I look at the big picture of Capt. Whallen on this page http://ezechoweb.com/ksp/khp.html I feel pretty confident that they are .357's in his belt.
If that is so, it would be a real find to locate this Patrolman's sidearm.I encourage everyone to look through this link when they have time. There's lots of history in this collection.

Thanks, Bob. That was a fun read, .. great info and a real window into the past. All of this from an old six-gun!

Hi Tony. I found a "dug-up" badge. Not the best example but better than nothing in a display.
