The blond color is butternut (the white walnut). I also think its an outdoorsman, not an HD due to the target sights. And I like it too.

That is really a wonderful, awesome, package!! The gun is great, but the grips are just the "icing on the cake"! The wood grain, 3 panels, and checking are perfect. Schofieldkid81 has some super talent and will have a busy future.

Allow me,The tangs are the areas of the frame between the Stocks on the front and back.Service Guns like the pictured Heavy Duty had the smooth Tangs,Target Guns like the Outdoorsman used serrated(grooved) tangs.

So you can get grooved tang and smoothe tang. Did S&W ever make any other kind of tang?

Alex - your HD is very cool and Steve's work is Beautiful.
Thanks for sharing!
So when did the term "backstrap" get changed to "tang"? If your revolver had started it's life as a OD, it would have a 6 groove rear tang? Right??

Super nice package. Was the revolver shipped to king directly from the factory? Or did a individual have the work done by King?

VM-Not sure it ever got changed,Just two different ways to describe the same thing.
Lowhog-I am waiting on my Factory letter. The Gun did come out of CA just about an Hour East of San Francisco.Supposedly the original owner was a member of the Calafornia Highway Patrol.
