I was out at a local pawn shop this afternoon and found a .38 S&W "Regulation Police" with the box. The box is damaged from storing the gun in a holster inside the box. Serial numbers match and the gun locks up tight, bore and charge holes are excellent. Just a few freckles in the bluing and no sign of a re-blue. Only question I have is... the ejector rod is "in the white". Is this a common thing? Price is $479.00 plus tax. Serial is 449XX. I'm thinking about making a trade for it. What say you?

I have the same regulation police with a stainless rod also, I am not sure if they only had them in the factory when thye put the later ones together, I bought mine at a gunshow for $175.00 and I love it everyone that sees it likes it. It is a little crunchy but grips were mint. I believe the thread on that ejector rod is opposite later model guns.

That's a pre war I frame and if it's the short 2" barrel makes a big difference in the value.

The rods/knobs are neither in the white (unless worn) or stainless, they are nickeled parts. And may have lost the shine from being in the leather holster.This strange phenomenon is specific to these pre war and very early post war I frame RPs. But I won't say they might not be found on another model, just haven't seen one yet.

As described price could be about right contingent upon seeing the finish. Could be low for a 2".
