Historical Letter Arrives On 1926
Around the first of the year I posted some photos of a S&W Model of 1926 refinished in nickel with gold plated hammer. trigger, thumb release, and ejector rod with a low serial number (29036). Roy's letter came today. It letters as a Wolf & Klar shipped in April of 1927. I know that the first order was for 1000 guns, but wonder if this was a first year production gun. The refinish was well done and the lettering is good. All numbers match, lockup is tight and with bright bore and chambers. All it needs is a set of steer head grips with ruby eyes.

Nice piece! I wouldn't worry so much about the steer head grips since they weren't original to the gun anyway. Those stags are about as good as it gets, IMHO. I'd be "right proud" to put it in a nice shuck and wear it to a Bar-B-Que just the way it is.

Are you saying your letter took from January 1st to the end of May? Or did you send off for the letter later? I am right at four months waiting, and am wondering the current turnaround since Mr. Jinks' surgery. I check the mailbox daily, but nothing yet. Many thanks, Marc

The very first shipment of 3rd model .44s occurred on January 27th, 1927. #28363 was in that shipment of seventy five (75) 5" nickel revolvers. Your revolver, #29036, 673 numbers later, shipped on April 7th, 1927, two and one half months later. However, S&W was also still building 2nd model .44s.
Yours is very early in the 3rd model run.
