Here's the background. An 88 year old man that lives in Brookline (just outside of Boston) decides its time to sell his home and move into an assisted living accommodation with his equally elderly wife. He has a small but very nice assortment of firearms that he has accumulated over the years. He bought his guns to hold and admire, and never shot any of them. Under a thin covering of dust lay unfired handguns and rifles in their original boxes and with all accessories.

There were three Colt Woodsmans from the 30's and 40's, three FN/Browning A5s from the 30's, 40's, and 50's, an FN Hi Power from the 50's, a Winchester Model 21 shotgun, and a single S&W revolver. I bought the A5 from the 50's (1st year Light 12) and the S&W. My friend (and FFL) bought everything else. The older gentleman was right on top of things and knew what the guns were worth. But a deal was reached and everyone was happy.

I think I was the happiest though, as I found one of my favorite guns in as close to perfect condition as I've ever seen. There is the slightest turn line, but other than that it is perfect. It has not been fired (or even loaded) since leaving the factory. All the serial numbered parts, stocks, and box match, and the accessories have never been used.

Now that was an amazing find! A big congrats to you. Soon there will be many posts to your thread urging you to shoot the **** out of it. Don't do it. The gentleman who bought it made it a safe queen and now it's up to you to be its new caretaker. Want one to shoot? Just let me know as there are a couple HP shooters in my LGSs right now. The title of your thread is correct. Do what's right!

Aw dang!

That's a great looking revolver. Thanks for the great pics.

That's gorgeous. Tell you what...as much as I love to shoot my Model 28s, I think I'd have to leave this one unfired and in the condition it's in. Matter of fact, I know I would.

There are enough Model 28s out there at still reasonable prices that if you want a shooter, get one of those. This one's a true treasure.

I should've made the text color of this post green (for envy), but was afraid it'd be too hard to read.

Contratulations on a great find.

Thanks to everyone for all of your well wishes. I'm realistic to know (and appreciate) that this kind of luck does not occur every day. You should have seen my face when I saw the condition of the package.

I was very tempted to buy the Hi Power, but I already have a really nice 50's example. My friend (the FFL) who arranged the visit has everything else sold except one Colt Woodsman which I think he is keeping for himself. He didn't even have to put them out in his shop, he just called a few of his customers that collect those specific guns.

I will keep this package in its present condition as I have a number of other HP's to shoot. I'm still a teeny bit jealous of Mick (azmick) and his 28-1, but I consider this example to be right up there too. It may not be the first one produced (First was S103500), but its as close as I've ever been.

Another thing that was interesting was that the gentleman had a dozen-ish firearms in the house, but no ammo. Not even one round or shell.
