Default Plz help to ID and date hand ejector .38

I have inherited my dad's 38 there is no model number
1. It is a hand ejector
2. The serial number is 85864
3. It fires 38 special
4. Barrel length 1 7/8 not my measuring
5. Fixed has the notch reAr sight
Additional features the gun is nickel plated and has the square butt. Thanks so much in advance for any help , this was the very first firearm that I ever fired. I grew up with this revolver always there.

Welcome to the Forum.

Is that number taken from the butt? If so, it has been cut down, as there were no snubnose revolvers built that early.

Please read these thread and report back.

If the revolver holds five cartridges, you have a Chief Special (pre-model 36) or Chief Special Airweight (pre-model 37) from about 1956. Otherwise, as Muley Gil said. Pictures always help.
