Highest numbered pre 29 5 screw
This info is probably buried here somewhere. Does anyone have an idea of what the highest numbered pre 29 5 screw is, or how to find out.
thanks,
Charlie

Charlie,
I'm sure when Bill (Doc44) reads your Thread he'll be able to give you a more definitive answer...Although until then...I do know there are a few in the 174,000-176,000 Range known to have shipped with 5-Screw Frames!!
I'd attempt to explain the some of the reasons why...But given I don't believe I'd be able to explain clearly enough I'll let Bill handle that part...Hope the Info I've provided will help for the moment!!

S176069 is the highest serial number for a 5-screw 44 Magnum I have in my records. S&W found some 5-screw frames in 1957 and used many, if not all of them, to make 44 Magnums. I had S174042 in my collection for many years. It was shipped on June 3, 1957 and has a 4-inch barrel and bright blue finish.

Bill,
That was my understanding as well...Although given I've been out of the loop for some time...I was uncertain if any new info may have surfaced so I thought it best for you to give Charlie's Inquiry a more definite answer...Rather than assuming I was correct...Thanks!!
