I recently purchased this smith for $320, and was hoping to get some advice on how to care for this piece. I do plan on shooting it once a month and will load it with +P's only as a bed side gun, and never shoot them with this gun at the range.
(I have a Model 15 for all the K-frame occasional +p fun.)
-How should I handle the black/brown mass that I cannot remove inside the chamber of the cylinder? I soaked the spot in break free CLP spray for 20 minutes, then used a copper bore brush on it but only a small amount went away. Any other product that could remove it? Is that spot in the chamber pitting? lead? Impossible to remove?
-With the serial # being C 139XXX I believe it was released around 1950~ The gun should have the positive hammer block change from 1944-1945, correct?
-Was $320 too much for this smith? The timing is good, not perfectly tight. The barrel inside is spotless. It has many very light surface scratches and I can only spot a black pencil size spot or two where the nickel has fallen off. And there is the black spot in one of the chambers.
-When I try to open the cylinder set at one particular chamber (the one with a C over it) the cylinder seems to be a little stubborn when trying to eject, have any of you experienced this issue?
I hope y'all enjoy the pictures, and thanks for checking out this thread!
