Well boys, I did it. Pulled the string on the 48 w/8 3/8" Bbl. some of ya'll helped me with yesterday. Its an old 4 screw and is just about as new as you can get without actually being new. Came with box and 1 doc/paper. End of box is printed correctly for the gun (not and end sticker though). I think they did this back in 1960 when this one was made. Serial # is grease penciled on bottom of box and also inside of top. Hard to get pics when the humidity is higher than the temperature. Not a spec on her. I like it, hope ya'll do. And "thanks" to those that gave me the "oh so gentle" nudge. I have quite a bit of .22 mag ammo from the old Ruger Single Six days.

So, exactly, what is the serial number? I have 2 8 3/8" 4 screws and a 1959 6" 4 screw. Big Larry

Big Larry,

Serial #K419644. Anybody know whether it should have only the printing on the box lid vs. the end paper strip with the hand writing? Printed in with coloring of box and grease penciled serial # on bottom.

I have your twin brother # 419610, shipped 6-1961. I also have another 8 3/8" # 397770, that letters as a M14 and it is not. I also have # 368119 shipped 7-16-1959.
All M48 four screws were shipped in the blue pre Bangor Punta box with the solid border. The very early ones, at least from my experience, were shipped in K22 boxes and overstamped MRF and numbered on the bottom in white grease pencil. I have pictured a couple examples. If you got that revolver for $800 you did very well. Hard to find 4" and 8 3/8" M48 no dashes. The 6" box is earlier. Big Larry

Boys, heres some pics of box. Dated 1955 on printed message inside of lid. White grease pencil on bottom of box, and black on inside of lid. Appreciate all of your help. Big Larry we are only 34 #'s from each other. I got it for $850.

Very nice at a good price. Just wondering if the grips are numbered to the gun as they appear to be K frame plain clothes with rounded edges on the bottom.

Moosedog, they do not. I have the right ones on the way. Good eye Sir.

Interesting that the lid is dated 1955. They must have dated these lids at least until 1961 when your revolver was shipped. Mine was shipped 6-1961 and as close as our two guns are, they may have been shipped the same time. I have no box for mine, but the serial number on the stocks do match. The picture I posted was my other 8 3/8" revolver.
I have one other 8 3/8" M48 a dash 3 that I bought from a Forum member. It has the 3 "T"s, a red ramp front sight and W/O rear. It is also fully nickel plated as reworked 10-1982.
Real pretty revolver and one of my favorites. Has not been fired since rework. Big Larry

My 6" , 48-0, 4 screw, # K404379, dates March of 1960... also have 8-3/8" # 406136.. no firm ship date yet...
JIM...........

The 1955 dated box lids lasted well into the 1960s, a publishing rather than box production date.

Oh, and by the way, nice model 48 ;).
