Default Help identify please

2014-09-29 20.22.01.jpg
I hope the picture attaches. I found this in my Dad's closet. No one knew he had it. As far as I can see about the identifying info needed, it's a 4" barrel with .357 CTG Highway Patrolman and has the post-war adjustable rear sight.
I can't tell about the screws-unless the #1 screw is hidden. The # is S 127XXX. Can someone tell me about this? Any info is appreciated.

It's model name is Highway Patrolman, it's a 5 screw, and it's a very desirable early to mid-1950s .357. The model received the additional name model 28 in 1957 so you can refer to it as a pre-28 if you like.

Nice find. I wasn't so lucky. My dad only left behind an unsafe to fire Hopkins & Allen top break .32 S&W.

k22fan has the correct ID. It is likely from 1954 and an early example. The 4th sideplate screw is under the right stock panel and has a flat head to clear the wood. Hope this is helpful.

Yep! That is a dandy! Your dad had good taste in revolvers.
I like the grip adapter as well as the gun. Shoot this one; you will like it!

Welcome to the FORUM! You will really enjoy that gun. I have a 28 from 1960. It is a 6" though with target grips. These are tanks. Let us know how she shoots. Bob

I show a couple on my list in the S127xxx range which shipped from S&W in mid-1955.

Thanks for all the comments and the info, everyone. Since I'm new to guns in general, I think I should have it checked out before I take it out for a ride. I think I'll be asking lots of questions. Thanks for the support in advance.
