Default The Keith Brown finishing touch on a 38/44 Outdoorsman

I bought this 38/44 Outdoorsman which according to Roy shipped in February 1932 from a Forum member (thanks again Kris ) about a year ago without stocks. I had a set of newer stags on it that just didn't do the gun justice and I've been on the hunt for the "right" set of stocks ever since. I found these Keith Brown Ropers here in the classifieds a few days ago (thanks Lee ) and as soon as I saw them, I knew I'd found the perfect set of stocks for this great old gun. They fit like they were custom made for this gun, and add the perfect classic touch to this old beauty. I think some things are just meant to be, and these KB Ropers paired up with this 38/44 Outdoorsman is the perfect example of just that.

When we see guns from that era we are tempted to say that they don't make 'em like that anymore. But then we see Keith's artistry and we recognize that true craftsmanship knows no generational limits. Congratulations to you for bringing those beauties together.

Thumbs up

Great package!!!! It is the combination of two of my favorite components - a S&W Outdoorsman and Keith Brown target Ropers. I think that Bob said it best with his post above.

Thanks for sharing,

Given this is a 38/44 what do you use in it these days? does anyone make the 38/44 round still or is it all hand loading?

Beautiful gun and beautiful stocks. Thank you for showing them.

I like Remington's HTP 158 +P lead hollow point through my 5" HD.

I shoot just regular old 38 special. I don't know if anyone is commercially producing the 38-44 round anymore. I bet if they are, it's quite pricey.

Rick, that is a gorgeous package! I'm glad you are happy with that gun. Those stocks are perfect for it, I love how dark and figured they are!

Thanks Kris - I'm very happy with that gun. It's laser beam accurate and now with the addition of those KB Ropers, it's a looker as well. The dark wood is what drew me to them when I saw Lee's add and I knew they'd be the perfect addition to your old OD.
You know I fall in love with my guns and I don't see this one going anywhere anytime soon.
