Just going through and cleaning and checking and ran across this box that evidently was used to ship me an outdoorsman. I just don't remember:-)

That's the kind of thing that you see at estate sales. Someone in the family of the deceased gathering up a firearms collection that they know nothing about, for the sale!

That right there is deception in advertising. I think that someone was trying to get rid of some obsolete junk by packaging it in a newer box.
I'd send it back and ask for a refund.
On the other hand - Does the box number to the gun? If so it may be original, as with S&W you just never know...
BTW - beautiful 38/44 O/D - regardless of the box that it came in.
