Removing stock medallions...
Buddy asked me to re-finish the stocks on his revolver (I've professionally re-finished rifle stocks for decades). I'd like to first remove the medallions - if possible - without damaging them. Press fit...glued...locking tabs...?????????? Thanks in advance.

I don't think you can remove them without destroying them - they are riveted to the stock. You'd have to replace with new medallions. I have always refinished stocks with them in situ. The acetone or finish remover won't damage them.

Thanks guys - I was mostly concerned with how, if at all, acetone etc. would affect the medallions.

I've done several pairs and acetone won't affect metal medallions. In the early fifties,S&W used plastic for a short period and those I'd be careful with.

I have used a drill press to remove the peened end then tap out the medallion with a small punch,
Problem is the medallions will have to be glued back in place as the stud will be too short to peen back in place.

I make my own rivet heads. Beats looking at glue.
