Pre War M&P snub nose
I picked this Pre War M&P up a few months back and although it is a horrendous refinish the price was right. All the numbers match including the grips? Serial # 6673xx. I'm thinking of a couple of different possibilities for the gun in the refurb department. My question is can anybody duplicate the case coloring on the trigger and hammer like the factory?

Yes, the hammer and trigger can be redone by one of the major restorers (Turnbull, Ford's).

6673xx would date shipping from 1937-38. You may be aware that pre-war snubbies are vary scarce and can bring big bucks, so be careful what you do with it to avoid diminishing its value. I probably wouldn't do anything to it, assuming everything is completely original. You should letter it before doing anything.

WoW, That is one fine little pre M10? I don't see the finish issues you are referring to. It looks like it has a nice glossy deep blue finish, most incredible for its date of production. Someone on the Forum just noted these folks do nice work. I don't have any first hand experience with them though. Glenrock Blue

It appears is if its been refinished once before (sideplate fit is not what I'd expect from an original finished revolver). So, a good restoration will not hurt the value.
EDIT: Whoops, didn't see you mention the refinish at first

Ford's just sends the Parts to Turnbull so your best bet is to just go direct to them. The problem with a refinsh will be that the side plate will never fit correctly again being that rounded off.

If you could see it up close it was not done properly. The one thing I will say is who ever refinished did not buff out the lettering. It still looks decent.
Never really have been drawn to engraving but I have been visiting with a well known engraver who is very interested in doing the project. My thoughts are it may be a good candidate for engraving. I know that refinishing again really isn't a great idea because of the side plate but engraving it might serve it well. Thoughts?
Oh and by the way the engraver turns out some work for Turnbull so problem solved for the case coloring on the hammer and trigger.
