I recently inherited a .38 S&W revolver. How can I find the history and date of this gun?

If you post in the 1896-1961 forum and add some more info (serial number, barrel length, fixed or adjustable sights, etc),there are a number of knowledgable folks here that will help.Uploading a few pics is very helpful.
