38/44 King Super Police
Hello all,
This is my newest King Modified gun that got delivered yesterday! It's a transitional 38/44 that shipped in 1946 & has been modified by King with his Super-Police Night sights. It has a King cockeyed hammer, but sadly the left side has been removed. As much as I wish the hammer hadn't been altered, I can certainly understand the reasoning on narrowing the hammer for a carry gun. The grips I added after I got her home. This one has also been re blued & the cylinder reamed out to accept 357.
Now I realize that with all these sins committed to this gun it has no collectors value, however I would argue that its off the chart of coolness
This revolver has the smoothest action of any King gun I own & I can have a blast carrying and shooting it not worrying about it losing any value.
I don't believe King did many of these conversions. After winning the auction I searched the Internet for other Super Police Night sight conversions and there wasn't much to see. If you have one, please post some pictures of yours.
Thanks for looking!
Family Photo!

What cop from that era would not have drooled all over that revolver. My first centerfire pistol was a Colt Officers Match Special that had King ramp sights installed, I picked it up for a song from a well-known dealer. Years later I just had to have a .357 magnum and went back to the dealer who traded me straight across for a brand new Colt Mark Trooper...warning bells and whistles should have been going off in my head but all I could think of was "will you throw in a box of shells?" To which he said "Yeah, I think I can throw in a box of shells." Couple of months later I took a buddy over to the shop to show him around and low and behold there was my little Colt in the display case with a very high price on it, about double what I had originally paid. I asked the old dealer and he said "You probably didn't know, King died."

Wow Paul! That is one really cool HD.....was it listed as a King conversion on the auction sight?
If it ever needs a new home - come find me! I would love to have another King HD.

Paul, that is a cool gun! Not a collector gun? I'm sure a lot of collectors would love to add that to their safe!

Like my Dad's 38/39 6"King's Colt New Service in .357 magnum....... a gun someone built to be carried and shot...........a gun to get someone through the next 30 years........ then it's a family heirloom..... not a collectors gun!!!!!!

Paul,
Wadda 'ya mean "no collector value"?? My advice...don't leave that one lying around out of your sight or one of your "friends" here will be adding to their collection.

Paul
I have an Ed McGivern .38 that has the same front sight. This one is a bit taller than
yours, maybe because the.38 has target sights. Here is a picture of the gun, and then
a close-up of the front sight.
Regards, Mike Priwer

Mike, thanks for the pictures!
I'm very impressed with the sight picture you receive with this bead. It really does pick up light well.
Thanks to everyone for your complements on my new gun!
