Default Help identify S&W 38 Special

Here are a couple of pictures of my relatives S&W 38 Special. It has a 6 inch barrel, Serial Numbers all match 3090##. Original wooden grips. Anyone have any idea what specific model, year made, etc? Any help would be appreciated. All I know is that it's been in the family for at least 50 years.

It is a Military & Police. SN places it likely shipping mid-1919. If you were looking for a model number, there isn't one. These wouldn't be assigned until 1957.

It's a Model 1905 Hand Ejector, 4th change, Military & Police. Close serial numbers were shipped in late 1919 and early 1920. As a family heirloom, you might want to get a factory historical letter to keep with the gun to tell you when, where and to whom the gun was shipped. Ed.

The closest M&P SN to yours I have on my list is 3074xx which shipped on 7/24/1919. A letter is $50, and is not likely to contain that much of interest, principally the shipping date and to where first shipped, almost always to some S&W distributor or retailer. The fact that yours is nickel plated and still has the original grips does enhance its desirability somewhat. Nonetheless, these M&P revolvers are common, and by no means rare.
