Your magnums look great! I just have a clean nothing special Model 28 no dash from 1960. S2011xx. I do have a set of diamond target stocks that were bought for a N frame in the 60's. Bob

Great set! Any chance those diamond targets number to the Pre29?
Reason I ask is I found a Pre29 4" 5 screw recently that the owner claims the diamond target stocks number to it....they aren't cokes, just diamond targets like yours. I haven't confirmed that they number or do not number personally....but he claims they do.

Leatherhead 23:
No, there are no numbers on the diamond targets and I'm pretty sure they were just replacements for the "Cokes" that were taken off of it long ago. The gun is an early one and while cosmetically challenged on one side, it locks up like a bank vault and for $400 I could not pass it up.

I wana play too
I only have the one 4 screw magnum. 29 no dash 6.5 inch S/N S206945, did not ship until June 1961.
It does have the original clamshell box. I laid some material inside to help save the original lining.

^^ HA!
Mine came fro the second owner who had it since about 1974. I bought it in 1994, I think. I traded a 70's 4" Python for it.
It came from a serious S&W Collector....some of the guys know him here. He was invited to join the S&WCA when there were double-digits. He has been collecting S&W since the late 1950's. He said that over those years that he has owned every .44 Magnum, in every barrel, and every finish combination...that's a big boast, but I believe him.
David Kern knows this gun well....Dave, are you there?

I haven't seen a model 28 4-screw magnum. Here's mine, serial#S206601, a 4" shipped January 31st. 1961 to Abercrombie & Fitch, New York City,N.Y.I purchased this gun 35 years ago and it came with this wonderful S.D. Myres carved and laced holster. I often thought that this set-up was the perfect Texas Highway Patrol rig.

I never know if Le May is persona non grata or persona grata. Guess it depends on how much history one learns.
Beautiful and historic piece for sure.

General Le May was a Persona Grata member of the Persona Non Grata Club. The rest of that story will be in an upcoming S&WCA Journal.

Here's a Highway patrolman you don't see every day. 4 screw non model marked (Pre 28) 6 inch S/N S175891 shipped in December 1957.
