Without inventorying your property I have no idea what is yours. If you mean the revolver in the photo, it appears to be a Model 36.

That's a pre-1967 J frame Model 36. It may be a .38 Chief's Special (pre-Model # gun - before 1957), but we'll need more info. You'll need to remove the Fitz grips to get the serial # off the butt. Include any "J" letter prefixes.

A pre-Model 36 Chiefs Special, probably from 1956. Grips are not original.

Welcome to the FORUM! Yes, a J frame. Many people choose to carry them. Shoot them a lot if you want to be accurate. Pachmayr Compac rubber grips feel great on them. It does look however yours needs the beauty treatment. (clean up) Take it to the range for a workout! Bob

Welcome to the forum.
You have a "Model of 1953 .38 Chiefs Special" likely shipped the last 1/4 of 1956 or 1st 1/4 of 1957. Nick named a Pre Model 36 because it was later assigned the Model #36 in mid 1957. It has the 3 screw sideplate counting the one screw hidden by the right grip.
