Need help with a S&W M&P 1905 marked usncpc on backstrap
Acquired a M&P 1905 4th change marked usncpc on the backstrap. my s&w book states 3000 total most shipped in 1941 but doesnt say where. The story i was told from the guy i got it from who knew nothing about it other than they acquired it from a family members estate in hawaii. my question is does anyone know if there was a shipment of these to hawaii in 1941. Just curious cause we all know what happened there in 41 and would be a nice piece of history. Also does anybody know what these have recently sold for i couldnt find another one to compare price

You'd get a better response if you posted some nice pics and a serial number, at least most of the number. Impossible to give you an accurate assessment without being able to see it. A factory letter is the only sure way to know when & where it shipped and in what configuration.

There are threads about these if you use the search function. The Navy ordered these in 1941, but the Naval civilian police force they were meant to arm apparently never materialized. Charles Pate found the guns so interesting that he devoted a few pages to them, but their ultimate disposal is unclear. At least some ended up in Britain with British markings, despite being .38 Special and not .38-200. I don't know how far a factory letter would shed light on the destination, but if I got one, I'd letter it.
And as Ken says, for value you'd need to post pictures.

After a quick look at Pate's book, it appears all 3000 guns definitely marked USNCPC would letter as shipped to the Washington Naval Yard between March 14 and May 10, 1941. Those were all 4" barrel with lanyard loop and checkered wood medallion stocks. Whether any were shipped on to Hawaii (per the OP's question) would not be reflected in the letter.

I know the grips are wrong and missing the lanyard will have to look for those correct items.
