Default Sasha Siemel's .357, humpback hammer

Killer Cat Week: Jaguar Hunter | Outdoor Life

Famed jaguar hunter Sasha Siemel poses here with his prewar .357 Magnum, a gift of S&W in the 1930's. Note the humpback hammer and Magna stocks, 8.75 inch barrel.

You can see his spear, too. But he also used several guns.
His books several times mentioned S&W .44's, but he never named the model.

Texas/

Thanks for the link. That was one tough hombre. I had no idea how big these cats could get until you mentioned him in another post once, and I started reading about Sasha.

Thanks for the heads up. I may try to find one of his books on a used book site like Abebooks.

Best Regards, Les

Psychiatrists today would class Siemel as "a loony ****************."

Amazing character.

Not as loony in my book as Steve Irwin and certain other unarmed chance takers around wild animals. I saw one who was featured a number of times on Jay Leno's or Letterman's show, Dave Salmoni (sp?) walk up to wild lions in Africa on Animal Planet. This guy was taking all manner of chances.

Les mentioned jaguar size. Siemel killed some that weighed to 400 lbs. They can reach at least twice the weight of a really big leopard and have more powerful jaws than either a lion or a tiger. However, they seem to produce far fewer serial man-eaters than do those other cat species.
