Pre War Kit Gun Sight
Could any one let me know if the Patridge front sight on the later produced 22/32 6" Heavy Target revolvers is the same Patridge sight option as was used on the Pre War 4" Kit Guns.
Thank you,
RV

I measured my HFT and Kit Gun Patridge front sights:
The HFT sight measures .204" above the base.
The Kit gun is .190" above the base.
The shapes are identical.
So considering slight manufacturing differences the HFT sight is close enough and well within the adjustable rear sight range.
However, early Kit Gun sights like mine have a gold dot. Later sights do not unless specifically ordered that way. So it depends on your Kit Gun serial #. There's no known exact serial # for the change.

Thank you very much for the information. I am in need of a Pre war kit gun sight and I thought it might be easier to find if I expand my search including the Heavy Target sight.
Sincerely,
RV

P.S. The serial number on my pre war kit gun is 53348X, which appears to be in the 1939 range.
Thanks again,
RV

I have 533480 in my .22/32 database and it shipped on 1/20/1941 to Alabama. The three guns listed higher and the three guns listed lower in my database all shipped in 1940 and 1941. They are all 4" kit guns.

You won't need to find one with the gold dot for that vintage.

"I have 533480 in my .22/32 database and it shipped on 1/20/1941 to Alabama" This one that JSR III mentioned that shipped 1-20-41 is mine. The front sight is .107" wide, .435" long and .220" tall. I bet ours were bench mates, hope this helps.

There are are a couple of kitguns in our serial number range (mine 533502) that have the rebated frame but the serial number marked on the butt. By chance does yours have a rebated frame?

I expect you were asking BidderRV but mine has the rebated frame with the serial number on the butt.

In that case, the first thing you'll want to do is verify if the s/n on the back side of the right side stock panel is stamped with a serial # matching the gun.
If it is matching it's likely that the grip frame was rebated at the factory after the frame was already stamped with serial # on the butt; and if there is no factory rework date on the left side bottom of the grip frame.

When I got this one it had after market grips but there are no re-work dates. The letter from Roy didn't mention anything about the grip frame so this one is one of those "I don't know" guns I guess. It lettered shipping to my home town, thought that was kinda neat.

I do remember your rebated gun also having that serial number on the butt like mine. We pmed about it a long time back when i was going through the data base.
I did not want to disclose you had the same thing as mine without asking.
Does your letter say grips are extension square butt grips?

There are a few cases where round butt grips with s/n on the butt had the notch in the backstrap cut by the owner to fit the rebated Regulation Police sq butt grips.
Usually though, the wood grips were modified to fit the round, un-notched grip frame, because it's much easier.

Mine says "checkered walnut extension square butt grips"
Target is not present. Mine either has the word target omitted or maybe its a regulation police style grip. In the past looking into it it seems a bit unclear what are the official terms for each grip.

Cool, perfectly righteous gun!
Not too uncommon and just as I thought, "....it's likely that the grip frame was rebated at the factory after the frame was already stamped with serial # on the butt; and if there is no factory rework date on the left side bottom of the grip frame."

Thanks Hondo. ON lettered reg police guns is the word target mentioned in the grip description? If not would that mean mine has Reg Police grips likely.
OP very sorry for the thread drift.

No, I've only seen them described as yours; "checkered walnut extension square butt grips".
The 2 screw target stocks I've seen described in letters are; "checkered walnut extension target" IIRC.
