Default Pre-Victory marking

Can anyone identify this marking? It is on the left side above the front of the trigger guard on a .38/200 British proofed S&W revolver in the 892XXX serial number range. Thanks much,
DB

It's a British proof mark, "crossed scepters", the other symbols ID the inspector and also the date, IIRC.

Indeed. It is part of Birmingham proofing. It is called a view mark. Just in case you weren't aware, British Service Models were not proofed when they entered British service during the war, but only after being surplused out and before they could be sold commercially. The K on the left denotes 1959, the B on the right Birmingham, and the number on the bottom identifies the rank of the inspector.
