Pre war N frame grips (Triple Lock), and medallions...
With regards to these grips on a Triple Lock:
Would the silver coloured medallions be appropriate or the gold coloured ones only, and is there a specific time frame for each?
Or both?
Having said that, mine are gold coloured on most, if not all, of my Triple Locks, but at least one are replacement vintage N frame grips. The one pictured, however, is 100% correct in all respects...gold medallions, shipped in 1916.
When and on what models would silver have been appropriate for if only gold is appropriate for the Triple Lock?
What is the metallic composition of both the gold and silver medallions?

Early TLs had the concave topped checkered grips. The gold medallions appeared in the 19 teens.

So, gold only? I assume they are brass or other similar alloy?
Yes, medallions appeared around 1910, or slightly thereafter. I have a Triple Lock that shipped in June of 1910 and it has the concavity you describe and no medallions.

IIRC, they are gold plated brass. In the 1930s, large silver medallion grips were used on N frames and, I think, some K frames.
