Used to dream of that
When I was first on road patrol, I didn't have much money and carried a used bull barreled model 10. I would dream of having that beauty in my basket weave.

Paplinker sent a tip to me that helped me acquire my second. I really appreciate it sir.
Leatherhead23 finialy just probably got sick of me aggravating him for the third. Thanks buddy!

What a beautiful piece. My very favorite. Bought mine used as a Detroit copper in 1973 and still have it. We have had quite a few adventures together.

Beautiful nickel Combat magnum
A 6" nickel 19-2 or pre 1969 19-3 would make a great photo partner Wink

What model?
I asked before but no one answered or I missed it? It is a 6" model 19-?, what year? I know my four screw '19-5, 4" '92 doesn't belong with this beauty (although a 99%, I hope) but I'm just trying to learn more about Model 19's. Any answer appreciated. We are not all experts.... ; ) Help a newbie out.

Ill send u a PM. No sir its a 4". It is actually not a model 19 sir. It is the predecessor to the model 19. These are referred to as Combat Magnums. You will also hear terminology like Pre 19 when referring to these. Combat magnums were manufactured prior to the model stamping in the middle fifties. Before I totally confuse you ill try to help by posting a pic of the factory letter. Mr Jinks can explain it much more clearly than I can. And by the way there ain't nothing wrong with a 19-5 neither!!!:-).Hope this helps.

Just to help clear up a point in your post, a model 19-5 is referred to as a three screw, the fourth screw would be in the front of the trigger guard for the early type of cylinder stop. That screw was deleted in the 19-2 in 1961.
If you are really interested in learning about older S&W revolvers you would be well served to acquire "The Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson 4th edition". I purchased one recently for $27.54 delivered on Amazon.
enjoy your new hobby, Billy

I'll add my congrats on a fantastic acquisition!!!!
Four inch Combat Magnum is my absolute favorite revolver. Bought my first one at the urging of a friend in 1971. Gifted a four inch nickel to my brother in 1979. Both were 19-3.
enjoy, Billy

The 19 stamping is still referred to as a Combat Magnum. Take yours for example 19-5 Combat Magnum. Where as A Combat Magnum without the stamping is simply referred. To as a Combat Magnum. Clear as mud right. I promise once you pick up your first Combat Magnum it will be perfectly clear.
