My new hand eject
i have a hand eject that is nickel plated with a 4 inch barrel serial number is 93258 . it is a five screw on left side of barrel it reads 38S&W special.u.s. service ctg's. cylinder and bore are very good condition. the right side plate has thumbnail sized trademark S&W logo. i am unable to post any photos of gun i have some on my phone but am not sure how to inport to my computer.can you all help me determine the age and if it would be safe to fire modern ammo in this gun. it also has real mother of pearl grips on it.

Hard to do without a photo but you might have a .38 M&P Model of 1905-2nd change.
Cartridge is right, number of screws fit, it came in nickel and a 4" barrel. S/N's ranged from 73251 - 146899 so that fits. Made btw 1906 - 1909 so before heat treatment. You should be okay with 148 or 158 grain lead bullets. Wouldn't fire any +P.
Here is a shot of a 1914 Model of 1905 3rd change with a six inch barrel.

SN 93258 indicates probable shipment in the 1906-07 period. You did not indicate whether the butt is square or rounded. If square, it would be the Model of 1905; if rounded, it is the Model of 1902. The dual caliber barrel stamping (.38 S&W Special/U. S. Service Ctg) ceased a little later, somewhere in the roughly SN 100000-120000 range. The U. S. Service Cartridge is the .38 Long Colt, a shorter (but otherwise dimensionally identical) predecessor to the .38 S&W Special which is essentially obsolete today. And that caliber was indeed used by the U. S. military from about 1890 until into the WWI period. But your revolver was not military issue. You can fire current .38 Special rounds in it, but most would recommend using only standard velocity .38 Special ammunition with lead bullets and definitely not +P.

Welcome to the Forum.
It looks like you have a Model of 1902 .38, also known as a Military & Police. It probably shipped in the 1906-1909 time span. I'd value it in the $350-$450 range.
