Dating a Smith and Wesson K-22
Hey all, I just acquired what I believe to be a Smith and Wesson K-22 revolver. I've been told it is an Outdoorsman and possibly pre-1930's by a local collector. The serial is 6381xx. What year would my revolver have been manufactured and what would be the proper name to call it?

I'm guessing your gun to be from around 1933. The K22 "Outdoorsman" was introduced in 1931. Between 1931 and 1940 the s/n # were 632132 to 682419. The grips on your gun are from much later, after 1961. It looks to have good honest wear from lovable use. It appears to have been dry fires quite a bit. you may want to make sure the "peening" into the case head recess does not affect the shooting. These are nice guns as both shooters, and everyone needs one in their collection.

I forgot to mention I put these grips on after I got it. I received it with some massive aluminum grips on it. These grips came off of a Victory revolver I inherited. Thank you so much for the information!

Nice gun with honest wear. Look like somebody hammered some nails with the grips. Probably "wanted posters"!

If 'preening' is a slight problem, Brownells has, or did at one time, the correct tool to correct this problem. I would be careful here and if needed, a 'quality' gunsmith can do the job as required. Just saying.

Further refinement: after c. 1967. That is when the diamond went away.

Sure. You might as well have moved them, they weren't right on the Victory, either.

No kidding. WHY do people DO this? I see it far too often!

Here is a pic of the stocks you want for your K-22 Outdoorsman's revolver. That is, if you want it to be more like how it appeared when it was new.

Odd. Mark that down for "never saw that". Are you sure they're not sterling silver?
