K-22 Outdoorsman
Know someone who has a K-22 Outdoorsman for sale. Asking $1575 for it and does include a numbered box with it. Belonged to his grandfather as he bought it new. No tools or pamphlets with it. Probably in the 90-95% overall condition range. Is this a reasonable price for this revolver? Thanks!

I would say it is, provided the inclusions you listed are intact. In fact, that price is probably a bit low.
I recently passed on one for $1600 that was the gun alone and in <80% condition. Had it met the specs you listed, I'd have bought it.
Show us pics when you get it, please!

Since I still have my SCSW4 out answering another question, I can provide K22 Outdoorsman values. Fair - $ 750, Good (60%) - $ $1500, VG (75%) - $1850, and Excellent (95%) - $2400. Add the fact that the original red picture boxes in good condition are selling for $1000 by themselves and the price you quoted does not seem so bad. For that money, I would make sure the stocks are numbered to the gun.

The grips have the rounded top with the small silver medallion inlaid into it. They look correct but I forgot to ask if the serial # was penciled on the bottom. They fit so well so I suppose they are original to the gun. This gun just looks "right" to me.

If they look like this, they are period correct.
The K-22 Outdoorsman's was also available with the early Magna style stocks, like those shown below. But it sounds like yours has the standard service stocks like those shown in my first picture.

Yes, exactly like the ones in the top photo. Standard equipment for those guns I guess.

Don't forget the SAT and cleaning tools. Last one I saw was over $1,000. The guy I bought my Outdoorsman from would not include the tools unless I gave him another $1,500. He did give me the original box and a factory letter and a copy of the original sales receipt for $2,235 shipped. The revolver is at least 99%. Big Larry

Da-a-a-yam! I would've said "Maybe a little high" to that price, but I stand corrected. Sounds like you should jump on it.
Y'all hard-core collectors are giving me a heart attack with these prices. I may be forced to sell my scruffy K-22 OD if "fair" fetches $750. Off to check condition descriptions!

No SAT, cleaning brush, or literature of any kind in this deal. Just the gun and box.

Do you have a SN? I am a little reluctant to say that is a good buy without a few good pictures.

All the "extra stuff" on the old K22 Outdoorsman cost a lot of money. Like glowe said above, the box alone can bring $1000 by itself! Just for curiosity, which box is it? One like Jack (JP@AK) posted above or is it the red picture box. That will make a difference in price too. Also, do you know the serial number? That can affect price too.

It is a red picture box. Worn on the edges but good for its age. I would really like to deal for it

It sounds reasonable with the numbered matching red box. If the box doesn't match then I'd say it's still not too out of line. The box is worth $300-600. I've seen some decent outdoorsman sell in the $1,200 range. So you're at $1,500-1800 already. As with all S&W's the top few % points of condition and all matching serial numbered parts, boxes, paperwork make a huge difference in value. I see this being especially true in the K-22 market. There are only a small number of very high condition complete packages out there and they can command multiples of value compared to a 85% shooter with a box. Also people quote boxes going for $1,000... very unlikely. It probably happened once or twice but I've seen them sell no reserve on eBay between $300 and $600 even with a Helpful Hints and paper. A K-22/40 2nd model Masterpiece box is different from a 1st Model outdoorsman.

I don't know the serial number of this gun and it's not a pristine piece but I want one I can shoot and not worry about ruining its value. The box is just icing on the cake to me. Not necessary but a nice addition. I am thinking real hard about it right now.

I know where there is a nice one. Made in 1933. Missing the jamb screw for rear sight. Grips are of the right type and would make a great shooter. If interested PM me. Gun is at a LGS and the price is $800 + shipping.
The owner is "on the square".

Is it just me, but does anyone else feel the Prices in the SCSW4 seem somewhat HIGH? Those #'s Gary mentioned, (95% - $2400) just seems way too much of a jump. I have noticed it also on some other models that are rather desirable. Almost like the prices are set for about 3-5 years ahead?

Sometimes "gut feelings" are the best instincts we have. If it feels right, go for it. I have missed some good stuff because I thought about it too long and hard.
